IMM (#19) 19/02/12

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about this here.

Good morning all!!

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday morning, I know I am...I have cinnamon roll pop tarts!! =D its the simple things in life...

Anyway the books from this week...

Won
Lone Wolf - Jodi Picoult

The lovely @Tescobooks had a competition on Twitter to win a copy of this...it doesn't come out here for another 2 weeks and she is by far one of my favourite authors! I actually screamed in the sandwich shop on my lunch break, when I got the email...needless to say I won't be going back there any time soon!

For Review
666 Park Avenue - Gabriella Pierce

My sister's boyfriend (Mr John Slavin...he writes about cars here...) told Emily from Corsair and Canvas that I (attempt) to book blog and she sent me this pretty book!

So this week both books are adult, rather than Young Adult, but can't see why I won't like them! =)

What did you all get this week?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend...I'm off to make bread and cookies!

IMM (#18) 12/02/12

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about this here.

So yes remember how I said at the start of January:
"I have too many books at the moment so won't be buying any..."

Of course that rule always gets broken when I go to see Raimy...who had also got a whole pile of books from Keris, which are on show here! I unfortunately missed seeing Keris that weekend due to mass piles of traffic...a 2 hour drive took 8 hours...needless to say I cried when I missed food and missed seeing Keris... never mind needing to pee for 3 hours!! But anyway on to the books...

Borrowed from Raimy
Divergent - Veronica Roth
In Darkness - Nick Lake
Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit - Jeanette Winterson

Borrowed from Keris
Kissing Kate - Lauren Myracle
Pretty Bad Things - C.J.Skuse

I've been working on getting through Pretty Bad Things which is amazing so far...I did read Oranges are not the only fruit around 5 years ago in College but I feel I need to re-read it.

Also today...The wonderful Emma from Book Angel Booktopia asked me to review Wonder and I did for her. It will be up today so run and have a look....especially at the rest of her blog as it's amazing!

What did you all get to read this week?

IMM (#16) 18/12/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about this here.
The Winning Team
Last night was my friends great idea of "Pre-Christmas". This was started six years ago as a way for everyone to meet up, share presents and have a mini Christmas before the group split off to go home to their families, which involves lots and lots and lots of games and drinking!! Last night was my first time attending...and I am really feeling it today...However everyone there knows my love of books...so I have lots to share with you!!
Won
The Hunger Games Trilogy - Suzanne Collins
Terminator Salvation - Greg Cox

I won the Hunger Games!! And already have 2 people at the party begging to borrow them once I've finished and that's purely off the blurb on the back of the first one! Mike won Terminator in pass-the-parcel and gave it to me as he is never going to read it...not sure I will either but I never say never!

Gifted (all by Nikki!)
13 Little Blue Envelopes - Maureen Johnson
Tweet Treats - Jane Travers (compiled and Edited)
A Modern Girls Guide to Getting Hitched - Sarah Ivens

Yey pretty books!! Tweet treats is really funny, plus our lovely Keris is in it! can't wait to read more of it and find some amazing recipes in 140 characters!

I may need to explain the last book...On Thursday night the ESP (Ever-Suffering-Partner) proposed! Using a giant sackboy toy and a very pretty Star Ring (we are big geeks...and it is defenitiley something memorable!)  =] So hopefully this book will come in useful as I have no clue where to start! Miss Raimy will also need to read this...She's going to be one making sure I get my butt down the aisle!

If anyone knows any wedding blogs let me know, will need all the help I can get!

IMM (#15) 27/11/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about this here.

I'm bacccck!

So I've vanished this month...In this month I had a week in Amsterdam (lovely place!) and then I had my undergraduate graduation event (see pic...) and thennn my laptop blew up!

Currently writing this on the partners home office computer...it smells funny in this office and there is a lot of paperwork everywhere! He also doesn't use a mouse, and prefers a graphics tablet at pen...that makes it interesting trying to click, copy and paste!

On to the books!

So this is over two weeks:

Bought
Eve - Anna Carey
Speak - Laurie Halse Anderson
Della Says OMG - Keris Stainton (not pictured because its been lent to the sister in law!!)

I've heard a lot about Eve, and it really excited me at first but I tried to read little reviews and so far I'm really enjoying it! Della was polished off in around 2 hours with lots of giggling very loudly and getting weird looks off the in laws!

ReaditSwapit
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (and other stories) - F.Scott Fitzgerald

So I always thought that Benjamin Button was an epic novel to make a 3 hour epic film in which very little happened (I didn't enjoy it!) but I now find out it is only 20 pages long! Neeedless to say a little miffed with ReaditSwapit as the person declared it was only that story and I feel a little cheated out of a £40 text book! But Oh Well,...Free Book!

In the entire laptop saga, I have been attempting to write posts on my phone, to then edit them at work or using Mikes computer so hopefully that will work till I get a new computer next week!

Can't wait to see what everyone else got in their mailbox! And if anyone can advise any graduation novels please can you let me know? =D

Love Always!

IMM (#14) 23/10/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about this here.

This week I got...

ALL 9 ALEX RIDER BOOKS! Squeeee!

Bought
Stormbreaker - Anthony Horowitz
Point Blanc - Anthony Horowitz
Skeleton Key - Anthony Horowitz
Eagle Strike - Anthony Horowitz
Scorpia - Anthony Horowitz
Ark Angel - Anthony Horowitz
Snakehead - Anthony Horowitz
Crocodile Tears - Anthony Horowitz
Scorpia Rising - Anthony Horowitz

They were on offer and I couldn't help myself...so I actually have book 7 and book 8 (duplicates) free to a good home if there is anyone else who reads them! I'm thinking about trying to read them all as soon as possible and review them all. I can't wait to see what I think now I'm older as I started reading them when they first came out!

 Won
Girl Meets Boy - edited by Kelly Milner Halls

The lovely people at Abrams & Chronicle ran a twitter giveaway (@ACKidsUK) for this book and I won! Having some great luck recently! This is an anthology of "he said/she said" stories that are paired and sounds brilliant, it also doesn't come out till March 2012 so I feel super lucky! Look out for the review on that one as soon as I'm done!

What did you get this week?!

IMM (#12) 18/09/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about this here.

I hadn't bought anything, and was so proud due to the fact I'm sure my to be read pile is the height of me... Then my work colleague wanted to look for a book for her little boy...and that was it...I was lost for 40 minutes!

This week I have:

Bought:
Hiest Society - Ally Carter
0.4 - Mike Lancaster
POD - Stephen Wallenfels

More Ally Carter!!! I do think I'm going to have to finish reading the Gallagher Girls novel I have first otherwise I'm going to get confused by the two series.
POD has been shown on quiet a few peoples blogs and its been looking really cool. 0.4 was a complete fluke..Not sure if I've seen this on anyone elses page so I'm quite excited and it sounds very sci-fiy!

Currently having a small reading block because I'm unable to pick which book to read next =S I feel bad for the books I haven't read yet, but were bought 6 months ago!! However theres too many brilliant books that need reading right now!

What did everyone else get this week?

Bought
Dead Island: The Book - Mark Morris

It is all thanks to Caroline at Portrait of a Woman who tweeted about this book...I already had the game on pre-order so thought the book would give me something to read while the ESP played the game!

I may complete a week of books based on computer games in November...I have 3 Assassins Creed Novels to read and I'm sure there's many others! Anyone interested in joining me?

What did you get this week?!

IMM (#9) 14/8/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about this here.

Cross My Heart & Hope to Spy - Ally Carter
The Bermudz Triangle -Maureen Johnson

Yey! Raimy leant me both of these. Reallly excited to read Cross My Heart...I loved the first one (review here) and was super excited when I picked the book up from the post office. I'd actually completely forgot that she was going to lend me the Bermudz Triange...I actually bought her it for her birthday! Super excited to read it and know I need to be quick as their appears to be a list...!
So this has been a very very long week...My sister moved to London...and then came back 4 days later because of the riots (She's okay though!), I was placed under consultation for redundancy, and I read lots and lots of books! That is at the expense of the housework of course...but anyway it's Sunday and I believe I need to get some more sleep and chill out!

Hope everyone has had a good week and what books did everyone else get?

Did anyone else jump up and down in the post office?!

Good Morning...*hides back under the covers*...Birthday BBQs are deadly to Steffi so very quick post that I forgot to write!!
I had nothing to post till 4pm yesterday...woops...but I found a charity shop...

I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You -  Ally Carter
Web of Dreams - Virigina Andrews
One day I believe I will finally have all the Virigina Andrews so they can stop appearing on my IMM! I only buy them from Charity shops but when I find them I usually find a few at once!
There was a taster of "I'd Tell you I love you.." in the back of my copy of "Jessie <3 NYC" and I really enjoyed it...so was really happy to find it in a Charity shop!

So not much, but something!!

What did everyone else get? Does anyone else like Virigina Andrews?!

Love,

Steffi xx

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about is here.
Again...wasn't planning on doing one...until I got home and got a magical red slip...and 3 days later when I finally remembered to go to the Post Office I found...
Special presents from Raimy_rawr!! Shes utterly lovely and I think all should go read her reviews...unless she's directed you here then YEY hello!! =)

Both of these are ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) and it made me stupidly excited that I got my first lot of ARCs!!

So I now have:

Undead - Kirsty McKay
Blood Magic - Tessa Gratton
Both of these I've seen a lot of people reviewing them lately so I'm really excited to get to read them myself...Especially Undead as it hasn't come out yet! =)
Fun all around!

IMM (#6) 10/07/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about is here.

This time last week I didn't think I'd be doing an IMM today, due to the large amount I bought last weekend...but....woops! More added to my massive pile now!

Bought:

Sugar Rush - Julie Burchill
I'm gonna be taking part in a special week by Caroline from Portrait of a Woman and I cant wait to see what other books from this genre I find from July 25th to 31st....So It was a perfect excuse to buy Sugar Rush!!

Never look away - Linwood Barclay
Latest detective novel! =) I have read all the previous books hes written and love them so I couldn't help but grab it....and it was on offer!! Already have my mother and friend at work pestering me to hurry up and read it so they can steal it for their holidays!

Heroes:Saving Charlie - Aury Wallington
I used to love Heroes the show...and the episodes with Hiro and Charlie was one of my favourite so when I found this book I couldn't help picking it up. No idea if it will be good or not but should at least be worth a read! Maybe I'll get around to finishing watching the series!

Unfinished Symphony & Music in the Night - Virginia Andrews
As usual another Virginia Andrews! I can't help myself with buying them...they're always a good deal from Charity Shops!

So thats me for the weekend! Now have to get ready to take the boyfriend to Forbidden Corner for his birthday treat! If you've not heard of it look Here! I will post a bunch of pictures of the trip as it should be a good laugh! =)

What did everyone else get??

Love always,

IMM (#5) 03/07/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about is here.
This one I've been very excited about doing..then I woke up with a stonking hangover...which I should have had yesterday but no...it decided to come on today!

As I said last week I got a bonus at Work and Mike was letting me spend £50 on books...So I did! First is the charity shop books:

Stolen Innocence (My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free) - Elissa Wall
I bought this one in the hopes that it would be better that Not My Idea of Heaven, and thankfully 195 pages in its a lot better! Very interesting! And its making a lot of religious based discussions with people when I'm reading it which I love! I love books that start of discussions!!
Dawn - Virginia Andrews
Yey...Virginia Andrews...that's all I can really say about this one because as soon as I find a Virginia Andrews book I buy it!
Witch Child - Celia Rees
I've always loved this book...then it got lost in the transition to University so had to rebuy this! This is a reading group edition so I'm looking forward to reading the questions and seeing if it makes me read the book in a different way.
Thirteen Reasons Why - Jay Asher
The premise of this book interested me and then I read the first Chapter...and had to force myself to stop reading and actually take the rest of these books out the box as it gripped me! I love the idea that you can have an effect on someone without realising and I'm looking forward to seeing what affect the person had!

Stolen Child - Laura Elliot
This one seems very much like Jodi Picoult so hopefully will not disappoint!
Before I Fall - Lauren Oliver
Again I've been captivated by the ideas of the book! Hopefully I'll like it!
Doing It - Melvin Burgess
I LOVED Junk when I read it at the age of 15 and then found this...I really like the idea that for once its not the girls perspectives of sex and I will get to see it from the other side. I advise all to go read Junk now actually...its amazing!

Forget you - Jennifer Echols
Another one that I love the idea of. The tag line of "Why can't you choose what you forget and what you remember?" means I'm going to like this book a lot!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky
This is a book I've always been told I should read...so I finally bought it! I will have to see what it's like and let you all know..
Entangled - Cat Clarke
I'm excited to read this one!! Raimy told me about it when I saw the cover for Torn and thought it looked amazing...She then told me about Entangled...and it went straight into my Amazon basket!
The Midwife's Confession -Diane Chamberlain
This authour seems to be following me...I always end up picking it up because I think it's a Jodi Picoult and finally I gave in and bought one...It actually comes with a "We are as good as Jodi Picoult guarantee" Apparently If I don't like it as much as her I can get my money back?!

Starter for ten - David Nicholls
The Understudy - David Nicholls
Ever since I read One Day I've been meaning to read more of this author! So when I found them on offer on Amazon I knew I had to buy them!
My Best Friend's Girl - Dorothy Koomson
I read the first few chapters while at a friends house (She'd passed out asleep so I found a book to read...) and loved it but couldn't borrow it at the time...3 years later I finally bought it!
A Walk to Remember - Nicholas Sparks
This movie always makes me cry and I'm really excited to read this book! I know a lot is different already but I'm sure I'm still going to love it

So THATS IT! 15 books altogether...now I'm off to organise my book shelves. I may post a list of books I plan to get rid of (i.e. Charity Shop, or RISI) so if anyone is interested you can nab them before someone else!

Hope everyone else got some good books!

IMM (#4) 26/6/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about is here.
Didn't do any shopping this week as I appear to have run out of money...I have had £20 to last me since 21st...and I get paid on the 1st! However...I do receive a big bonus this pay check and Mike has already agreed to let me spend £50 on books!!!! =D So poor poor amazon will be doing a massive delivery to my house =)

But before I get ahead of myself...this week I got

Birthday books!!! Both of these were gifted by Raimy! My mother has already read Sister and loved it, and Forgotten sounds really interesting! So really excited and thankful to Raimy for being lovely and kind =)

So next week...bigggggggggggggggggggg haul =D Squee...now just need to open a library in my house...

What did everyone else get?!

IMM (#3) 12/6/11

TIn My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about is here. Small haul this week...Though I am expecting Jessie <3 NYC tomorrow! Plus a few more when I go buy them!

Borrowed:
The Magic Faraway Tree - Enid Blyton
Squee! I loved Enid Blyton when I was a child, especially the Faraway Tree and the Famous Five, so am really happy I've managed to borrow this. Really excited to read it again and I really hope all have read her before...if not...go do it now!! =]

Bought:
Truth & Dare - ed. by Liz Miles
Something Borrowed - Emily Giffin
Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin

I think this haul kind of shows how varied my bookcase is! Raimy_Rawr reviewed this and from reading that I instantly went and bought it! i used to read a lot of short story collections when I was younger and am excited to be getting to read another! Her review is Here, and you should go give it a read!

I, like a lot of people, am currently hooked to the Game of Thrones TV series, and bought this last food shop. I can't wait to read it but am having to wait for the TV show to end so I don't spoil the finale! Apparently the book was written so that it could never be turned into a series...so I'm expecting a lot of back story and descriptions which could really spoil it for me and the partner!

What did everyone else get?!

Steffi xx

IMM (#2) 30/5/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about is here. A day late with this one but the Ever-Suffering-Partner has been keeping a watch on how many books I'm buying...He's asleep so quick post! We have the following books this week through new methods!

ReaditSwapit:

The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse - Robert Rankin
Daughters of Shame - Jasvinder Sanghera
Going Wrong - Ruth Rendell
I signed up to ReaditSwapit many years ago and never got anywhere with it. Decided to follow the ESP's idea of (shock horror...) getting rid of some of my books! What he didn't anticipate was I'd find a way to get rid of some books and gain more as well ;] I put up 3 text books and they all went within 24 hours and I got the 3 within a week! So now just need to do a dig and see what else I'm willing to part with...(not very much if I'm honest!)

Bought:

Not my idea of heaven - Lindsey Rosa

Proof I should not be allowed to do the food shopping alone! It was cheap and I would've come away with another 10 books as they are all on offer in Asda (hint to those interested!). Almost half way through this one and really enjoying it!

I promise reviews will be happening soon!! Plus I have a random post about university to write...=)

IMM 08/05/11

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren as a way of showing off our addiction to books every week. You can learn more about is here. My darling friend Raimy has introduced me to this, plus also helped me gain all these books last week...So below we have...

Well first of all, this is my kitten Nomi who was interested in what the books were doing on the floor...she then proceeded to fall asleep on them so they may be there for a while...

Gifted
The Lord of the Rings trilogy -  J. R. R. Tolkien
The Kissing Gates - Mackenzie Ford

Both given to me by my friend Noeleen, before they went to the charity shop! Always been meaning to read the trilogy...just need to find the time!

Bought
The Second Husband - Louise Candlish
Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold
The Book of a Thousand Days - Shannon Hale
Second Hand Heart -- Catherine Ryan Hyde
Forever - Judy Blume
Twins - Marcy Dermansky
Leftovers - Laura Wiess

Very big amount bought this week! But that was because I went hunting around bargain book stores and Charity shops with Raimy!
I tend to read Young Adult, but mainly books about real life (Reason Lord of the Rings will probably sit for years...). Jodi Picoult is my favourite author at the moment so probably why I picked up Second Hand Heart.
I bought Judy Blume after Raimy raved about reading it, so I am under strict instructions to post it back once I have finished reading it, and apparently it is shocking I've not read Lovely Bones yet?

Borrowed from a friend
Ballet Shoes - Noel Streatfield

Borrowed from Raimy as I was going to buy it in the shop and she pointed out I could just borrow it from her! Win!

A very large amount of books to read, which the partner is not happy about! We now need to buy another bookcase or two next month as I had already overfilled the ones we have...(and I'm not getting rid of any!!)

What did anyone else get? Or any recommendations on which to start with??
